so its the usual weird group of one great looking american girl with one hyper italian guy and one sober indian guy... we would have presented a curious sight to others i guess... and as usual the conversation topics ranged from the innocuous cultural differences to the squirmy racy topics! Jenny's Wendys chicken nuggets craving started right around this time which wouldnt be fulfilled until our way back....
reached leavenworth, the bavarian theme town, late in evening and picked KOA campground to camp that night. KOA is the perfect place for the spoilt camper i should say.... but i like it... its so organized with showers, restrooms, swimming pools and evened out ground for tent sites... ohh our campsite showers even had oval mirrors and potted plants!!! ofcourse the cost was high too... which we realized the next day and that with the combination of all sites pre booked for the next nite, we had to move to another place.... i dont know if its the canyon or mbe i hadnt noticed earlier... this time the noise of the birds chirping was so aloud it was surprising... i live in the downtown area and used to night time noises and sirens but this was louder!
coming back to the bavarian theme of the town, the main street is filled with buildings that are bavarian style, atleast they say so, i havent been to bavaria so i wouldnt know... but the interesting sights were the BMW police suv with 'polizei' written on it! and i think the paint colors and pattern were german style on that suv.... ohh and can u believe this, seattlite like me missing the Starbucks shop symbol because it was written in the bavarian theme?? though it was ridiculous, i wont complain coz i love german beer... not that beer has anything to do with starbucks... just wanted to say i love german beer before i forgot - see its even worth repeating in a single sentence!!!
hmm.... so eagerly started the next day for the climb... but who would have thot the hike to the climbing spot - pearly gates - would be as tough as the climbs there... not that i am an expert climber... just a 5.9ish toproper... so the hike was a 45+ mins steep one, with the gears and other stuff it was enuff to drain out half my energy... as usual the sooper strong simone didnt have any problems, jenny was competitive enuff not to show any tiredness! but the sights from the climbing spot were beautiful though. anyway we, actually i, huffed and puffed up to the rock face and up went our expert on leading to setup the top rope for Jenny and myself. the rock was granite and there werent any good handholds for climbing - called slab climbing - and i so hated it... though it was good experience... ohh there was this 5.10 climb which i thot i would not even cover 1/3rd of the route but was able to almost finish 80%.... was happy about it... so the day ended with 2.5 climbs and a drained out soul...
the second night we camped out in the canyon near the climbing area, and the temp drop reminded us that we were in a canyon. but the camp site was great.... no showers and no fancy restrooms this time... anyway we passed out with the days exertions and a couple of beers - ohh that reminds me, somehow all the waitresses in the restaurant we ate that night were blondes... hmm weird!!
the next day was good, no hard core hikes, but the first climb was brutal, i scraped my ankles and hands enough to show off afterwards! struggled on the second climb and decided that was the end of it.
ohh and all the while, Jenny was still thinking about her Wendys chicken nuggets... her unfulfilled wish... so we decided we will take off and hunt down a Wendys before we leave for Seattle... so we ended up in wenatchee, lucky coincidence that we found a 'help wanted' poster in the leavenworth starbucks that said - help wanted for N. wenatchee starbucks, near wendys - so we knew there was one in wenatchee... but had to randomly drive around to find it! got lucky again, found it easily, and it was mission accomplished with a happy Jenny and relieved Simone!!!
back home with a sore shoulder and bruised ankles and arms...
some random pics to show off...
